First Show: Prep

The hang dates for my first photography show are at the end of next week. NEXT WEEK! Am I ready? Not quite…

This is my first show, so I’m trying to find the best way to prepare for it. What works for me is having everything laid out: lists, prints, stuff to touch and shuffle and mark up. So I looked over the photos I took for this show, and narrowed it down to about 60. I evaluated them on the computer for several days, because I kept going back and forth. Once I narrowed it down to 40, I ordered small prints so I could lay them out to make my final choices.

The thing is, I don’t really know how many photos I need for the show. I know what the space looks like, I have photos of it, I know what I can hang and how. But translating that to actual numbers is hard for me. On the other hand, I don’t have the ability to order prints and frames all willy-nilly. I have to think about what I want, how things are going to look, and that’s it. I’m still shuffling around my photos, marking up the backs with possible sizes and frame ideas. I have to write a bio, and explain how my show relates to the play (James and the Giant Peach!). I have to come up with a price list. I have to promote this…

I think my “real life” is going to take a backseat to this show for a week while I wrap everything up.
